Print this Unit
(PDF 140KB)
Microsoft Producer Combines slides created in Microsoft PowerPoint with video and audio clips to create presentations rich in multimedia. Before beginning this tutorial, save your video and audio clips to file. It is important to save all documents in the one folder as once you have completed your presentation and published it, you can’t move the files used in the presentation to a new destination. By saving all files in the one folder, you can easily move the folder to a new destination or new computer.
How to begin
- Create the information slides in Microsoft PowerPoint and save the presentation to your elected folder

- Open Microsoft Producer and select New Project Wizard
- The Wizard will guide you through the steps to create your presentation. The first thing it will ask you to do is select a Template. Look through the list of options and select the one that best suits your needs then press Next
- Select font, colour, size for your Presentation Scheme and click Next
- Type in the information that will be displayed on the opening screen of your presentation and click Next
- In the Import Slides and Still Images dialogue box, select Browse and locate your folder where you have stored your PowerPoint presentation then click Next
- In the Import or Capture Audio and Video dialogue box, select Browse and locate your video clip. Continue to select Browse to add further video and audio clips. The Capture option allows you to transfer video footage straight from your video camera into Producer. Click Next
- You will be asked if you would like to Synchronise your video with your slides. This is a useful tool if you want your video to play continuously throughout the presentation as it allows you to watch the video and click the slides at the exact moment you want them to play so the video and slides are synchronised . In our example, we want the slides to be the predominant focus of the presentation with the video only playing at elected times, so we would select No in the Synchronise dialogue box.
- Select Finish. The wizard will now import all your selected files onto the timeline. The wizard will then take you to Preview Presentation so you can run your presentation as it currently is.
- Adjust the length, sequence and timing of your presentation by clicking on individual files on the timeline and dragging the starting or ending position of the file to suit. See Producer Help for more information on how to adjust the length and time of individual files.

- Select File> Save project. This option will allow you to make open the working document at a later date to make further changes.
- When you are happy with your presentation, select File> Publish Presentation. The Publishing wizard will take you step by step through the process of publishing your presentation for viewing.
- Great work, you’re done!
